Internships in Barcelona, Spain

Welcome to Barcelona!

Barcelona is known for its eccentric creativity, cultural diversity, and endless amounts of energy. The architecture in Barcelona is stunning and unique, ranging from medieval castles to the modernist buildings of Antoni Gaudí. It is the heart and capital of the region of Catalonia and is, for all intents and purposes, now a bilingual city as many inhabitants of the region speak both Spanish and Catalán, the official language of Catalonia. The unique blend of history, art, culture, and language make Barcelona a fascinating place where you will never run out of things to see or do.

Why Intern Barcelona?

A cosmopolitan destination, Barcelona is the second largest city in Spain and offers interns the unique opportunity to live in Catalonia which is an autonomous community within the country of Spain. Barcelona is known for its stunning sites like the Sagrada Familia, its delicious tapas, and the beautiful beaches. Barcelona offers the opportunity to intern in English or Spanish. Barcelona is a great place to intern for most career fields, but is an especially excellent location for interns interested in business, marketing, and sports.

International Studies Abroad went over the top with my program. They felt like my far away-from-home family. The staff and the students were very supportive and friendly. Everyone was happy to be there and wanted to share whatever knowledge they had. Everything was planned out great and they were on top of everything. There isn't much at all I would recommend changing out the program. They were there for me and made sure I was having the best time I could be having. They were able to show us around the city and help get us settled in for our new life for the next few months.

Orientation, Excursions, & Activities

Your program will start with a multi-day orientation in Barcelona where you will enjoy a city tour and other excursions as well as receive pertinent information about how to be most successful in your internship abroad. Throughout your program, you will have the chance to go on weekend trips, day trips, and optional trips. ISA excursions allow you to explore the timeless, quaint, and historical landscape of Spain (and potentially surrounding countries) that you may not have the chance to visit on your own.  The locations below are a sample of included and optional excursions that have run in the past. Please know that these are subject to change.

THE MODERN CITY OF ARTS AND SCIENCES

Valencia

Valencia is famous for its beaches, oranges, paella, and is known as the "City of Arts and Sciences", with an eye-catching cultural complex hosting museums, performing arts, and the biggest aquarium in Europe. After exploring the city, you will have the chance to enjoy a fabulous day on the beach, taking part in water sports such as paddle boarding, surfing, canoeing, etc. A 100% Mediterranean experience!

Costa Brava

Costa Brava

On this multi-day tour you will visit the amazingly bizarre Dalí Museum, the fisherman's town of l'Escala, and the beautiful seaside village of Roses. You will also enjoy a boat ride to Cadaqués, the small coastal town where Salvador Dalí once lived.

Sitges

Sitges

On this excursion you will visit one of the most emblematic towns on the Catalan coast, just south of Barcelona. Famous for its charming downtown and beautiful beaches, Sitges was also an important modernist center in the 1960’s. On the way you will visit a cava cellar where you will learn about the manufacturing process of the Catalan champagne.

Housing Details

ISA Housing provides the opportunity for interns to experience aspects of the Spanish lifestyle that are inaccessible to the average visitor of Spain. All ISA housing options are either within walking distance to the ISA office and internship locations or conveniently located near public transportation. Travel times to internship sites generally range between 15 and 60 minutes depending on housing locations. Please note: All housing is subject to availability.

The experience of living in another culture will be both educational and rewarding as long as you stay open-minded at all times. There are differences in culture and lifestyle between life in Spain and the U.S. Remember: the key to a positive experience is flexibility. With this in mind, you can become a true Español/a!
